Statuesque giant coastal Redwood trees pepper the western portion of The Preserve. These rich systems benefit from the coastal fog and host a diversity of life in their canopy. Preserve trails including Williams Canyon, Trappers Loop, and Garzas Creek Trail transport hikers through these magical systems where they can observe fire burnt trunks of these centuries old trees.

Redwoods are adapted to California’s fire ecology. Exposed to fire, their bark  is flame retardant and their seeds germinate with exposure to fire or water. Redwoods propagate in circles around their mother tree, a formation known as a fairy chain. Trees found growing in this formation are clones.

Redwoods are one of the tallest trees on earth, and two of the tallest redwoods south of Santa Cruz are found on The Preserve on the Trappers Loop trail.
